Stepi Hakaim joined LTS in January 2016 as a Principal Consultant based in LTS’ Indonesia office. Stepi is from East Kalimantan and has 14 years of experience working for international donors in the forestry sector. He is a professional in sustainable forest management, Indonesian climate change policy, REDD+ Safeguards, low emission development strategies (LEDS), FLEGT-VPA, and SVLK (Indonesian TLAS). He has been involved in the Indonesian timber legality definition, timber documentation administration, and the development of SVLK since 2003.

In 2015, Stepi monitored and evaluated the EU Project on Legality Verified Community Forest and Small and Medium Industries to increase Supply for FLEGT License Timber in Java. He trained local NGO (BIOMA Foundation) and 14 villages in East Kalimantan on Community Forest Management. In 2012, he conducted M&E for the EU Project on Strengthening Civil Society Organisations and Small and Medium Timber Industries in VPA Preparation and SVLK implementation. In 2006 – 2009, he facilitated capacity building for government field officers (Ministry of Forestry) in East Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, and South Sulawesi for online timber tracking system under EU-Indonesia FLEGT Support Project.

From 2006-2008, he facilitated the implementation of a moratorium on logging in Aceh Province (“Green Aceh”) and he has supported local communities in East and Central Kalimantan to gain access to forests through village forest programmes and REDD+.
