Forestry & Natural Resource Management

Resource-use is not just about conservation or large-scale use. Millions of people rely on forests and natural resources for their survival and to generate income to raise themselves out of poverty. These people are often not empowered to make decisions about, or take control of, their resources for their own benefit. Exclusion of any party, including the rural poor, in environmental decision making may be to their detriment.

Our approach to forestry and natural resource management is based on a realistic understanding of the relationship between resources, their management, and the rural and social environment in which they exist. We acknowledge that new structures and processes are essential for effective governance, planning and responsive service delivery to improve rural livelihoods through resource development opportunities.
