Resource Assessment and Collaborative Forest Management of Tanga's Coastal Forests

The work was initially based at a pilot site, Kipumbwi, in a mangrove Reserve Forest in Pangani district. Inputs were provided to an interdisciplinary team to achieve the following:
  • Established district and regional planning systems (including management information systems) which enable government authorities to guide the future management of the coastal forests.
  • A methodology for collaborative forest management based on participatory action research at the Kipumbwi Mangrove Reserve.
  • An approach for agroforestry intervention at Kigombe pilot village.
  • Training of government staff in participatory techniques for natural resource management.
