Natural Resources Management Programme



The Natural Resources Management Programme (NRMP) is a 4-year programme that will contribute to the implementation of the Vision 2030 long-term development strategy for Kenya, and specifically implementation of the first Medium-Term Plan through related sector strategies and sector development plans. The NRMP immediate objectives are:
  • Reducing poverty through enhanced food security, reduced livelihood vulnerability, and improved natural resource management systems in drought-prone and marginalised districts and communities.
  • Enabling policy and regulatory frameworks for environmental and natural resource management, including climate change, developed and implemented with a poverty reduction orientation.
  • Supporting civil society organisations, local communities, and private sector service providers, who are capacitated to support and influence natural resource management and contribute towards poverty alleviation.
The main focus of the NRMP is reduction of poverty through sustainable management of the environment and natural resources. The 42 million pounds programme is managed by the Government of Kenya including the Office of the Prime Minister, National Environment Management Authority, and Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources. The programme is organised within the following three components: Component 1: Environment and Climate Policy and Management; Component 2: Decentralised Management of Natural Resources; Component 3: Civil Society and Private Sector Management of Natural Resources. The technical assistance component is managed by a consortium comprising of LTS, NIRAS and CAMCO Kenya. The scope of the technical assistance services provided by the LTS consortium includes:
  • Strategic and operational management
  • Technical advice and support
  • Monitoring and evaluation
  • Institutional development and capacity building
  • Coordination and communications
  • Managing procurement of technical assistance
  • Demand driven support
  • Partnership development
