Henk is an accomplished environment and livelihoods specialist with more than 25 years experience in policy advice, project management and human resource capacity building. He has worked extensively both in Franco-phone and Anglo-phone Africa and has undertaken a number of assignments for international donors, government authorities and international conservation NGOs. He combines a unique background in forest and protected area management, tropical agriculture, soil and water engineering and rural energy with a demonstrated capacity for skills’ development at an individual, team and organisational level; both technical and personal development.

Henk worked mostly, but not inclusively in natural resource management, agricultural and rural development in a range of ecological zones throughout Africa. Fields of work include forests and climate initiatives such as REDD+, adaptation, forest and wildlife management, collaborative management, protected area management, commercial and community forestry, watersheds and wetlands, mangrove ecosystems, transboundary river basins. During his earlier career he was more involved with sustainable agricultural production, farming systems and extension.

He has worked as an independent consultant since late 2001, first in Cameroon and later based in the Netherlands. Henk has: (i) successfully facilitated project and programme development, evaluations and project management; (ii) accomplished a number of land-use plans, protected area management plans and business plans; (iii) experience with the development of timber tracing systems; (iv) experience with facilitating participatory planning processes; (v) experience with CSR and corporate partnerships in the energy and forestry sectors; (vi) been successful in playing an active role in reform processes. He is always looking for opportunities for change. He has a hands-on way of working.

He has developed a strong attachment and understanding with Africa as a coach and as advisor with a strong feeling for personal and institutional development. Throughout his career Henk has developed a strong interest with awareness training, conflict resolution, leadership development, and dialogue and coaching trajectories.
