Planning for Resilience in East Africa through Policy, Adaptation, Research, and Economic Development

LTS has, in collaboration with Tetra Tech, been awarded a contract by USAID to implement the Planning for Resilience in East Africa through Policy, Adaptation, Research, and Economic Development (PREPARED) programme. Specifically, LTS is to be responsible for implementing the Biodiversity Conservation component of the Programme. PREPARED is a five year, multi-organisation, comprehensive programme aimed at mainstreaming integrated, multi-sectoral, evidence-based, climate-resilient development planning and programme implementation into the EAC and its Partner States’ development agendas. Successful planning for the regional development challenges will involve strong working partnerships, coordination, and capacity building among a broad range of institutions in the climate change, biodiversity, and water supply and sanitation communities to create and strengthen policy leadership and knowledge frameworks that support and integrate adaptive and strategic decision making and more effective development. At a minimum, this will require the collaboration and alignment of the following independently-funded implementing partners: EACS; LVBC; IGAD Climate Prediction and Application Center; FEWS NET; and RCMRD.

LTS Africa will work with the LVBC and partner states to facilitate landscape-scale freshwater biodiversity efforts under an IWRM framework. LTS will lead Component 2 (Biodiversity Conservation) of this project (a $2 million component), using the regional knowledge of LTS Africa and decades of experience in transboundary biodiversity conservation in East Africa to provide targeted support through conducting key ecosystem and biodiversity assessments.
