LTS is looking for a Participatory Forest Management Advisor for Ethiopia from 2010-2013

The advisor will assist the Natural Resource Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with all project implementation activities related to participatory forest management (PFM) and development of non-timber forest products (NTFP) in several areas of Ethiopia;

 
  • Refine PFM approaches, simplify models, develop forest management plans and take them to scale.
  • Diversify and maximize NTFP livelihood options, develop a range of public-community-private partnerships and enhance market linkages.
  • Build capacity at ministry and community levels in a variety of field sites via PFM / NTFP through provision of training, extension services and supply of equipment.
  • Facilitate internal cooperation, information sharing and communication to maximize effectiveness and efficiency of PFM / NTFP programmes in Ethiopia.
  • Coordinate dialogue with the EC Delegation in Ethiopia on any specific programme arrangements or conditions to be followed during the implementation of the project.
 

Minimum experience needed is:

 
  • A Masters Degree (forestry, agronomy or development studies or equivalent).
  •  At least 10 years experience (minimum a category II expert) in forestry, PFM and NTFP development projects/programmes relevant to the assignment.
  • Fully conversant with EDF procedures including (preparation of programme estimates, procurement of services, assistance to government line ministries on EDF procedures).
  • Proven experience of institutional capacity development, knowledge of public sector governance and public finance principles.
  • Knowledge of the Ethiopian working environment and Amharic language will be considered an asset.
