African Water Management Opportunities

Technical specialists, water resource and project management professionals are sought to drive progress in African integrated water resource management.

Having recently opened an office in East Africa through our subsidiary company LTS Africa, we are looking for high calibre Water Resource Managers, Technical Specialists and Project Management specialists to join our growing Africa based team to meet the growing demands for our services. 

We foresee that a variety of short and long term assignments will become available in early 2010, largely based in Eastern Africa – suitably qualified African nationals and women are especially encouraged. Opportunities will include:

Team Leaders and Project Managers for long term positions to oversee the development of Integrated Water Resource Management Plans in several East African River Basins. We are seeking demonstrated understanding of water resource management and stakeholder engagement processes.
Profile: 10-15 years relevant experience in water resource management and planning, preferably in the Region, including as a Team Leader.

Short-term Experts to input into the development of IWRM plans in East African River Basins, including economists, legal experts, water quality specialists, hydro-geologists, hydrologists / modellers, GIS and remote sensing experts, environmental and social scientists, participatory planning facilitators, ecologists, irrigation and agricultural planners, fisheries and hydropower experts.
Profile: Demonstrable international or African expertise in one or more of the above specialisms, with at least 5 years experience of practical application. 

Senior Project Managers to manage and lead the development of certifiable standards for sustainable water resource management and stewardship across the African continent. We are seeking preferably African nationals to lead the identification, outreach and engagement of stakeholders to develop an innovative water use standard which is viable, relevant and meaningful to the contexts facing African water users. Responsibilities may also include managing the piloting of the standard at selected case study sites and basins. Opportunities may be long or short term, based in East, West, Southern, Central and North Africa dependent on outstanding funding and suitability of candidates.
Profile: At least 10 years experience of managing large complex projects and processes in Africa which require consensus and cooperation between stakeholders including the private sector, NGO’s and government.  Must be able to demonstrate communication, facilitation, planning and organisational skills of the highest calibre.
