Qualifications

PhD, University of Aberdeen, 2008; MSc Environmental Forestry, University of Wales, 2003; BSc (Hons) Tropical Environmental Science, University of Aberdeen, 2000.

Philippa brings sound expertise bridging forest ecology, sustainable forest management and forest carbon emissions reductions from her work on forest dynamics and carbon balance under a various different kinds of management. Philippa is involved in developing REDD-related projects in Kenya and Malawi and she recently completed an Independent Validation Review of a Plan Vivo project in Malawi. She was recently involved in a project advising the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change on the potential treatment of Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry by developed countries under a post-Kyoto agreement. She secured her doctorate by completing research on the carbon benefits of reducing logging damage in lowland rain forests.  In addition to her strong research skills, Philippa also offers extensive current knowledge of climate change issues in relation to Reduced Emissions through Deforestation and Degradation (REDD), Land-Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) and EU climate change processes. Philippa has worked in the tropical forests of Africa, Asia and Central America
