Qualifications

M.Phil Wildlife Management, Moi University (Kenya) 1993, BSc. Wildlife Management, Moi University (Kenya) 1991.

Irene has over 14 years experience in natural resource management with rural communities in the Horn of Africa.  Her expertise encompasses project cycle management of projects/programmes related to food security, water and sanitation, nutrition and health, natural resource management, pastoralism, conflict management, gender and environment, organizational development, emergency interventions in water and animal health, drought cycle management, and poverty alleviation. This experience has been acquired by working with community, national and international conservation and development organizations.

She is very strong in monitoring and evaluation skills having worked to design and implement project/programme M&E systems at community and organization levels using the logical framework approach. She also has experience in livelihoods analysis using the sustainable livelihoods framework.

Irene has worked as a tutorial fellow and lecturer in Moi and Daystar Universities respectively in Kenya. She has also worked as a Programme Manager for Wildlife Clubs of Kenya and as the Pastoralist Project Manager in the Intermediate Technology Development Group East Africa (now Practical Action) before joining the consulting field.

In consulting she has worked as a Rural Development Consultant in Acacia Consultants Ltd and as a Senior Consultant with Kesarine and Associates both based in Kenya but working in Eastern and Southern Africa.

She brings to LTS her wide knowledge and skills in enhancing livelihoods of rural communities through conservation and development projects by reducing vulnerability and enhancing resilience to environmental shocks such as adverse climate change effects.
 
Irene is fluent in Kiswahili and English with basic French.
