Peter has 25 years of technical and managerial experience in a wide range of natural resources management and rural livelihood-focused programmes throughout the tropics. These have included community-based natural forest management and environmental management projects in both moist-montane and semi-arid rural environments; integrated watershed management; research management; forestry extension; and university teaching and curriculum development. Many of these projects have included significant multi-disciplinary components (agriculture, livestock, social development, settlement planning, micro-finance, HIV/AIDS, gender and institutional capacity building). Peter currently leads the LTS Technical Assistance Team which is supporting the EU-funded Improved Forest Management for Sustainable Livelihoods Programme in Malawi.

Countries

Long-term assignments in Kenya (7 years); Nepal (4 years); Zambia (7 years); Malawi (2 years); Prior to that, extensive fieldwork (3-6 months/year) in Central and South America, West Africa and the South Pacific whilst working for the Commonwealth (later Oxford) Forestry Institute on ODA research grants
