South Africa, Valuation of South Africa’s State-Owned Plantation Forests

The LTS team worked with government advisors, the South African Forest Company Limited (SAFCOL), local consultants, the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry and transaction advisors to assess the two forest valuation models. Specific advise was provided on:

  • the most appropriate approach (model) to adopt in terms of valuation
  • the key assumptions used in the models, specifically those related to yields, costs and prices; and
  • the application of valuations to bid evaluation

Malawi, National Forestry Programme – Working Group on Co-management of Forest Resources

A specialist in forest resource management collaborated to:

  • support the establishment of a working group for co-management;
  • facilitate and guide a synthesis study on collaborative management of natural resources (using case studies from Malawi);
  • draw upon international experiences in co-management;
  • support the production of a working document for the Forestry Department detailing options and mechanisms for co-management of forest resources under a range of land use and tenure.
