Kenya, Arabuko-Sokoke Forest Management and Conservation Project

A staff member acted as Team Leader for the Mid-Term Review. This assessed the project logframe and early implementation phase against criteria set out in the EC Guidelines for Forest Sector Develop Co-operation. The main areas examined were:

  • the institutional framework for collaboration between the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Forest Department,
  • the degree of integration with District planning structures, local residents, schools and tourism interests
  • the efficiency, effectiveness and impact of the approach being taken

Lesotho, Drakensberg/Maloti Mountain Conservation Programme

The livelihood specialist provided by LTS assisted the project with:

  • Compilation of  baseline information for the pilot project area in Mokhotlong;
  • Feasibility assessment for integrated natural resource management for the Drakensberg /Maloti area;
  • Facilitation of  stakeholder participation in Lesotho that would contribute to the Transboundary discussions;
  • Institutional and policy support to the National Environmental Secretariat to enhance its ability to take a more proactive role in the development of the proposed Maloti/ Drakensberg Transboundary PA; and
  • Preparation of the final project report
